Sumerian Man

These might go into scraps eventually. They're just little projects I'm doing for my History of Clothing class. We are supposed to draw a Man and Woman from each major historical era.

This is a Sumerian man. The Sumerians were the first group of people that weren't Nomadic, therefore the first true "civilization". They lived shortly before the Egyptians.

What's notable about Sumerian clothing is that they would put long plant fibres (such as corn hair etc) into a circular shape, which in essance would look like the worlds first scallop. They also wore weaved waistbands, which included a long tail to symbolize a connection to animals. The Sumerians also "invented" jewlery which were made of stones. Another invention of theirs what was the first curling iron (which was simply a slim rounded rock that was heated up) to achieve the tight crimp like curls. The Sumerians didn't wear shoes as there were none in the world yet.

Sumerian Men wore a skirt like cloth around their waist, and unlike females did not have to cover their upper torso. Also unlike females, the amount of scallops and fringe determined their position in society. This man would have been a priest as the entire skirt was covered in scallops.

Sumerians had unique features, such as wide skulls with high cheek bones, full lips and very large, round eyes.
